1840: Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg were married; it was Albert who introduced the straitlaced behavior and strict court decorum that is often thought to characterize the Victorian Age.

1909: W. E. B. Du Bois's Niagara Movement joined with concerned white socialists and liberals to create the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

1929: The Saint Valentine's Day Massacre occurred in Chicago; in one of the bloodiest mob executions in the 20th century, members of Al Capone's gang pretty much destroyed the “Bugs” Moran gang.
